Harris Could Be Out For Year

National Football Post Writer Michael Lombardi has learned first hand that Green Bay Packers cornerback Al Harris may have a ruptured spleen, which would sideline him for the rest of the season, pending a second opinion.  Harris sustained the injury in last night’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys.  We will have more on this story as it develops.  www.nationalfootballpost.com

    Oh jeez!

Well, hope he’s okay eventually, for his sake, I mean.

…but this is horrible news for the Pack. We’ve got no dependable back-ups there. We get torched any time either he or Woodson are out.

It’s terrible news, but I’m a huge Packers fan and I have faith in Tramon Williams and Will Blackmon. The biggest problem is that Atari Bigby might not be back for a couple weeks, and Nick Collins got hurt last night as well. If Woodson’s toe gets any worse, that means we’d be totally depleted of our starters in the secondary for at least a week. We’ll be forced to play Jarrett Bush and even rookie Pat Lee in the nickle and dime. The youngest team in the NFL just got a lot younger.

Well, Tramon Williams & Blackmon have to get their feet wet eventually. Al Harris wasn’t always ” Al Harris “. When he first came to Green Bay he struggled a bit but he came around quite nicely. I hope Al recovers well enough to give it a go again next year. He’s been a joy to watch every Sunday, well almost every Sunday.

    :)

This is a MONUMENTAL hit to this defense. You couple it with Bigby being hurt and this secondary is in a HEAP of trouble! FRICK!

Same sentiment here, as Bob Greenfield ….

“Get well, quick Big AL” We miss ya already!

Ya gotta admit that was a fluke hit between AL and A.J. Who knew!

    Go Pack!

Aaron - you’re comment literally blinded me. I’ve advocated retiring #28 just so I don’t have to be reminded of the abortion that was Ahmad “Holding - #28 on the Defense” Carroll.

I would expect Thompson and Coach to stick with what we have, but it would be worth ringing the Eagles to see if Lito’s available. I wonder if they’d take the Favre pick for him.

A really personable guy and a great football player. If you see Al Harris you can’t help but like him. Best of luck. Football is just a game. There’s a whole world out there waiting for Al.

This doesn’t make any sense. The report is that he had hematuria (or blood in his urine). Well the spleen has nothing to do with the genitourinary system. So he must have a genitourinary (most likely kidney; ureters or bladder) injury as well or the report is erroneous.

If he has a spleen injury, nonoperative management is the norm. The length or inactivity is related to the splenic injury severity. Most data is on kids. One medical paper suggested the grade plus 2 weeks. Considering football is a high impact sport it may be longer by expert standards. I’m sure there is not a lot of data on this topic. Splenic injuries are graded on a 1 through 5 scale. 5 being shattered and most likely operative.

Using this medical logic, I would expect him to miss AT LEAST 3 weeks and maybe up to 5-6 perhaps longer (8-10 weeks) depending on national trauma experts opinion. This takes into granted that the “blood in his urine” report is erroneous and he doesn’t have 2 injuries.

Al always played hard, I watched him play at A&M Kingsville, and he was often at my house. Good luck Al, take care of yourself. The Pack will miss you!!!

This is tough, no question. Patrick Craig is right, it takes time for guys to develop, but this is supposed to be a “Super Bowl” year. The margin for error is so slight in the NFL, and right now I think the biggest concern for the Packers is at safety. Atari “the JoyStick” Bigby sits and the running attack for the Cowboys goes off due to bad alignments, bad angles, and so on. I think the Pack can withstand the loss of Harris, but not if they start tier two guys at Safety.

Last thing… Dallas is good. Real good. Top 5 Receivers, Top 5 O-line, and very good QB. Now a quality 1-2 punch at RB? The Packers won’t see that every week, and as we saw last year, they might not have to on the way to the NCF Championship.

“PACKERS’ HARRIS TESTED FOR RUPTURED SPLEEN: Green Bay cornerback Al Harris underwent additional medical tests amid a report he might have ruptured his spleen in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys. The NATIONAL FOOTBALL POST, a Website that lists Harris’ agent as a contributor, reported that the injury could end Harris’ season, but Harris was seeking a second opinion.”

    * Must add that the article is placed directly above a 5X11 inch add for a certain “male enhancement” product.
