League sources have confirmed to us here at The National Football Post that the NFL League Office has sent Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis a letter informing him that he was in violation of NFL league rules when he falsely accused the New England Patriots of tampering with then Raider wide receiver Randy Moss. This violation of NFL team policy and guidelines will certainly come with a hefty fine.
More on this story as it develops.

who cares how much they fine Al Davis.
as long as we dont lose no draft-picks or hit with cap-related fines, i say let Al fight, entertain himself for the sake of vitality lol…

Well, did the NFL investigate Davis’ claims? Of course not. That would upset Mr. Kraft’s delicate sensibilities. Give me a break. So Belichick lied and lied about Spygate, but now the league believes him when he says he never spoke to Moss. Riiiiiiggggghhht….

Al Davis also asserted that Packer GM Ted Thompson withdrew his interest in a potential trade for Randy Moss because he, Thompson, concluded that Moss could no longer run.
How in heaven’s name could Thompson, or anyone for that matter, conclude such a thing? Perhaps Al was just imagining things.
The photo of the corpse-like Al Davis accompanying this story says it all.
The upcoming Michael Lombardi book on The Hotel just got a few chapters longer.

Please remove his photo from the home page. It’s too creepy! Children viewing it may be damaged for life.

Aaron,
I posted this on this site on 10/1:
“Dig some diggin’ and here’s what I found, according to PFT as reported on 4/30/2007 the Patriots and every other NFL team for that matter received permession to talk w/Randy weeks prior to the deal being consumated, see link: http://archive.profootballtalk.com/4-23-07through4-30-07.htm
No tampering as I see it.”
I think Lucian could be correct in his assessment after all.

Dear Allen Davis,
Why is it that you just cant keep your trap shut? Not that I am complaining as you are your own worst enemy, and all of us former guests of the “Hotel” and a few current occupents, LOVE watching you crash and burn. You continue to prove how ego and arrogance will bring down any franchise. Yes, “Rome IS burning” and you are holding the gas can and the matchbook in the same hand.
Maybe you should send your CEO to NY to smooth this over with the Commish?
Lets see, who will we blame for this one? Spin the wheel please ……….Tom Cable it is!! I am sure that by now, (6 days later) you are aware that Cable is not the guy you thought you were hiring. Put him on on notice TODAY, BEFORE the Saints game. Send him a certified letter demanding that he stop lying about being happy to work for you. We all know that no-one is to be happy unless you are happy. Are you happy Allen?
Keep up the good work, we’re watching!!

Payback is a B-TCH!
AD and his henchmen have a lifetime of it coming their way. Lets just hope that Goodell does not go easy on him. In fact, Goodell should consider giving AD a compensatory 1st rnd pick. That would penalize the franchise for sure. We all know AD would surely blow the pick and with it, about $40-70 million depending on the slot.

Does Al Davis have a Screen Actor’s Guild card?
If he does, and I’m a film-maker, I get on the phone right now and sign him up for my next horror flick.

So why if they tampered did he then trade Moss to the Pats? The old man is a joke…put him down.

Gotta love lucian and all the other patriot haters. Washed up owners can say anything and if it involves the patriots it must be true?
Maybe if lucian had team like the pats, sox and c’s to root for, he would not sound like the other cook (al davis).

Nikos, while your viewpoint is correct and I applaud you for bringing that information forward, I suggest you may want to tone down the patting yourself on the back for doing the digging and finding that story from 18 months ago; looks like somebody else did the heavy lifting for you.

Hugh,
I wasn’t patting myself on the back and I used to read PFT regularly before they morphed into football TMZ and I recalled the post myself. In any case even if I didn’t the info is not the poster’s original work so there is no need to credit them.
Now that NFP has come along this is where I get all my NFL info from.
PS - Nikos is a very common Greek name.

Nikos - I couldn’t agree more re: PFT. I thought they were pretty good until about the last year or two; now that site is unreadable. NFP has become the first place I go to get my NFL info.

Aaron - unless Davis files a complaint with the NFL, they have nothing to investigate.
Dan (and Aaron) - click the links in the comments above, and check the dates of those stories (April ‘07) - it should make it clear that it is Davis who is ‘mis-remembering’ the events. The (false) accusation is all about Al’s bitterness over Moss having success with the team that eliminated the Raiders in the 2001 playoffs.

Your owner has a serious problem. Stop using the Patriots as an outlet for lame excuses. You need to ask him to retire so he can be put in the wax museum.

File this next to the film vault with the spygate tapes that Goodell destroyed inadvertantly…
…you realize Al could probably subpoena that in a counter suit and get the commish on evidence destruction?
Let them eat replay!

Take away their 1st round pick and give it to the Pats. That will teach him to shut his mouth.

Al Davis is a crotchety old fool who deserves everything he gets. You can’t go around accusing people (or organizations) of things falsely. It’s called libel. He should be fined $500,000.00, docked a couple of picks and be given a gag to wear for the rest of his miserable life.
It’s about damn time somebody gets punished for lying about the Patriots. It’s been going on far too long.

I actually went to the Raiders/Saints game on October 12, in New Orleans. I am a die-hard Raiders’ fan, since 1980. I was disappointed to see Al Davis fire yet another coach. To quote Al Davis himself, about his poorly run organization, he needs to find a new owner. WHO RUNS THE ORGANIZATION, MR. DAVIS? I can say I am NOT happy about losing to the New Orleans Saints, by 30+ points. GIVE ME A BREAK! Good luck to Tom Cable. He’s gonna need it. I’m going to be brutally honest here. I believe with all my heart that the Raiders need a woman coach, if you want to go that far. The Raiders’ locker room would be a whole lot different. Mr. Davis would STAY in his office. SILVER AND BLACK ATTACK RULES!!! Let us NOT be the Raiders of old that were called the dirtiest team in the league. Let us not be called the Raiders of old that LOST. I respect all of the former coaches of the Raiders. I hope that Al Davis gets his head out of the sand and actually fixes his team.
I will ALWAYS be a Raiders’ fan. ALWAYS. No question. Do the right thing, Mr. Davis, or those of us who ARE Raiders’ fans will be deeply disappointed in YOU, and not your team. There is nowhere else for the blame to go, Mr. Davis. It’s all on YOU.
