NFL Pushes For Rule Change

Throughout his tenure as commissioner, Roger Goodell has not hesitated at implementing changes aimed to improve the game.

After watching an officiating mistake that cost Pittsburgh its final touchdown Sunday, Goodell expressed to the competition committee that he would like to make an administrative change before the NFL playoffs to prevent those mistakes from happening again.

The procedural modification would allow the referee on the field to consult with the replay booth more than once on a specific play. As it is, the referee can consult with the booth only once.

The hope is that the change could be made before the playoffs to avoid the type of scenario that prevented Pittsburgh from a final touchdown that would have allowed the Steelers to win 17-10 instead of 11-10. Being that it’s a procedural change, not a rule change, it’s feasible the modification could be made in short order.
