The Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast for East Rutherford, New Jersey now encompasses the February 2 showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. The early report calls for a high of 35 degrees and low of 25 degrees, with a 30 percent chance of snow and winds out of the northwest at eight miles per hour.
The chance of watching snowflakes tumble to the turf during the biggest game of the season will likely be what draws the most attention from the early weather report, but the good news for the Denver Broncos and quarterback Peyton Manning is that the forecast is calling for just eight miles per hour worth of wind, which is a big break for the AFC Champions. High winds can wreak havoc on an offense’s passing attack and MetLife Stadium—generally one of the windiest venues in the National Football League—appears as if it may offer a less hostile environment than what quarterbacks like Eli Manning and Geno Smith are used to encountering on a regular basis.
As for the early weather report’s impact on the Las Vegas point spread, the line for the game is still holding steady at Denver -2.5 (MGM, Wynn, LVH and others), but the total has dropped from 48 to 47 or 47.5, depending on the sports book.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and will post an update if anything changes.
