San Francisco 49ers defensive end Demarcus Dobbs was suspended for the first game of the season for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.
Dobbs got arrested last season for marijuana possession.
Dobbs, 25, will be eligible to return to the 49ers' active roster on Sept. 9 after a season-opener against the Green Bay Packers and is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games.
"The San Francisco 49ers organization supports the NFL's code of conduct policy and their recent decision regarding Demarcus," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement.
Dobbs is a backup to Justin Smith.
