49ers could be taking interest in Ricky Stanzi

The San Francisco 49ers could be one of the teams zeroing in on Ricky Stanzi.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, the team will send representatives to the school’s second pro day on April 4 to evaluate the former Hawkeyes quarterback.

The New England Patriots put Stanzi through a private workout last week. Stanzi threw for 3,004 yards with 25 touchdowns and only six interceptions this past season.

The Niners with first-year coach Jim Harbaugh are in the hunt for a quarterback. San Francisco has the seventh overall selection. It’s possible that Auburn’s Cam Newton and Missouri’s Blaine Gabbert are both off the board before the Niners select. That could lead them to consider a quarterback in a later round. The 49ers have the 45th overall pick in the second round and the 76th pick in the third round.

With an NFL-high 12 draft picks, they’re also armed to potentially trade up at some point. They have extra fourth-, sixth- and seventh-rounders and two compensatory picks in the seventh round. Compensatory picks cannot be traded.
