San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick outshined Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, throwing three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Griffin was under constant pressure during a 27-6 loss to the 49ers.
Kaepernick completed 15 of 24 passes for 235 yards and a career-high 134.5 passer rating.
“I did comment to him in the middle of the week, Wednesday or Thursday, that he was being exactly perfect — leadership and demeanor-wise,” 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said of Kaepernick. “A combination of loose and focused. … Some people have baby deer skin. Some people have armadillo skin. He's got the armadillo skin.”
Wide receiver Anquan Boldin had five catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
“Colin, he's been taking a lot of criticism, but one thing I like about Colin, he's always hanging in there,” tight end Vernon Davis said. “He's always fighting through adversity. He's one of those guys who's tough.”
Griffin, meanwhile, completed 17 of 27 passes for only 127 yards and got sacked four times.
“We've got to conquer some of the demons that we have going on as an offense and just as a team in general — and I think we will,” Griffin said. “It takes all of us.”
“We haven't got dominated like that since I've been here,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said.
Ahmad Brooks had two sacks, seven tasckles, three for losses and two quarterback hits.
He said he doesn't think Griffin's knee is 100 percent.
“He's obviously a man and he makes his own decisions, but I personally don't feel he should be playing right now,” Brooks said. He's a man, he has the heart of a warrior and is going to go out there and play regardless of the circumstance. Everybody can see it. Everybody can see it. He shouldn't be playing.”
Griffin has also endured plenty of speculation about his relationship with the coaching staff.
“People are trying to character assassinate me, and it's unfortunate,” he said.
