The San Francisco 49ers picked up a boost for their special teams by signing veteran cornerback Karl Paymah to a one-year contract today.
Paymah spent last season with the Minnesota Vikings after spending his first four years with the Denver Broncos. He will provide the Niners with some depth in the secondary, but is considered a versatile special teams performer.
Paymah made 12 stops on special teams in 2009 for the Vikings, who were improved in that area after a disastrous 2008 campaign.

there does appear to be an extended leave of absence for "personal issues" and others are taking over his duties. No team announcement has been made. Several local reporters seem to indicate that this about "personal Issues" unrelated to football.
