49ers looking for a new kicker for the time being

The San Francisco 49ers will sign a kicker this week to take the place of Joe Nedney, who is expected to sit out with what is being called a strain in his right knee, the plant leg for his kicks.

According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, the 49ers will likely pick between Shane Andrus, Garrett Lindholm and Swayze Waters. Nedney kicked a game-winning field goal in overtime to defeat the St. Louis Rams last Sunday, but with the strain and a bone bruise, he’ll miss at least a week.

The 49ers cleared roster space to add a new leg earlier today when wide receiver Jason Hill was placed on waivers. A third-round draft pick in 2007, this marked the second time this season he’s been released. He’s got just 40 catches in 32 career games.
