The San Francisco 49ers are carrying an extra kicker on their roster for Saturday’s divisional round playoff game.
But they’re going to stick with the one they’ve had all along.
Niners coach Jim Harbaugh announced this afternoon that David Akers will be the team’s kicker Saturday night when the Green Bay Packers come to Candlestick Park. Akers has been pushed by veteran Billy Cundiff, who was signed to the roster last week.
“He gives us the best chance," Harbaugh said, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.
Akers missed 13 field goals during the regular season, including two in the final regular season game. He revealed he’s been dealing with physical issues as he recovered from surgery to repair a double sports hernia in the offseason.
