This is starting to get good.

Jim HarbaughSigning Asomugha would be huge for Harbaugh.

According to a tweet from Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers have emerged as the New York Jets’ top competition in the race to sign free agent cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

Per Lombardi, “Jets main competition for Asomugha right now are the 49ers, they are in it strong...will be interesting to see how it plays out...”

Signing a high-profile talent like Asomugha would be a huge get for rookie head coach Jim Harbaugh, who currently has Shawntae Spencer and the aging Nate Clements as his starting cornerbacks.

This, right here, is exactly why we love free agency.

Is Asomugha more likely to land in San Fran or New York? Discuss it now in the NFP Forums!
