AFC Pro Bowl team announced

The AFC Pro Bowl rosters were announced on Tuesday evening and, not surprisingly, the New England Patriots are well represented, especially on offense.

Five members of the Patriots offense were named as Pro Bowl starters, including quarterback Tom Brady, receiver Wes Welker and tight end Rob Gronkowski. Patriot guards Brian Waters and Logan Mankins were also starters on the AFC roster.

On the defensive side, tackle Vince Wilfork earned a spot on the roster, as did defensive end Andre Carter, even though he is out after having quadriceps surgery. Special teamer Matthew Slater also was selected, giving the Pats eight players headed to Hawaii.

Other offensive starters for the AFC are Baltimore running back Ray Rice and fullback Vonta Leach, Pittsburgh receiver Mike Wallace, tackles Jake Long of Miami (who is hurt) and Joe Thomas of Cleveland and center Maurkice Pouncey of the Steelers.

On defense, AFC starters are Ravens nose tackle Haloti Ngata, Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney; linebackers Terrell Suggs and Ray Lewis of Baltimore and Von Miller of Denver; cornerbacks Darrelle Revis of the New York Jets and Champ Bailey of Denver and safeties Ed Reed of Baltimore and Troy Polamalu of Pittsburgh.
