Voters say it isn't even close as Green Bay signal-caller takes home the prize. Joe Fortenbaugh
INDIANAPOLIS—The thought process was that both Drew Brees and Tom Brady had legitimate arguments supporting their respective cases for the 2011 Associated Press Most Valuable Player Award.
The end result said otherwise.
ICONRodgers threw 45 touchdown passes and just 6 interceptions in 15 games this season.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the 2011 NFL MVP Saturday night in Indianapolis by claiming 48 of the 50 votes. The two voters who thought Rodgers’ season wasn’t MVP worthy opted to back Brees, who was named the 2011 NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
The 28-year-old signal-caller from California led the league in QB rating this season (122.5) en route to guiding the Packers to a 14-1 record as the team’s starting quarterback. Rodgers was the runaway favorite to win the award before the Packers stumbled in a Week 15 loss at Kansas City, causing some to jump ship and back Brees.
Others even went so far as to make the claim that Rodgers didn’t deserve the award after backup quarterback Matt Flynn set franchise records for passing yards (480) and passing touchdowns (6) in Green Bay’s 45-41 shootout win over the Detroit Lions in Week 17.
You can debate those points all you want, but the bottom line is that Rodgers put together the most statistically impressive single season for a quarterback in NFL history. Throw in the fact that he won 14 games in 15 starts and you’ve got yourself the league’s most valuable player.

The media had Aaron Rodgers picked from the start of the season. Drew Brees had one of the best seasons for a quarterback in the history of the NFL. Broke more records that Rodgers and Brady combined. Biased Media as usual.
Yea, well wire-to-wire winning will do that. Finished last year as Super Bowl MVP, starts the season with a win AGAINST Brees, and starts 14-0, why wouldn't he have the media vote early in the season. Brees only started getting attention when he starting running up the stats late in the season (After Rodger's high level of play started getting overlooked because of its consistency). Only records that matter are wins and losses, and Rodgers beat Brees in that.
Amazing season for Brees but Rodgers was better. Brees had attempts equal to three additional games vs Rodgers 14 appearances
The media, the media , the media.. Maybe if the Saints had won game one, Brees would have maintained an edge in perception through the season but maybe he shouldn't have lost to both Tampa and St Louis. Maybe if Brees had run for 257 yards and extended drives with his legs, he would have won it
But....
Rodgers had the best statistical season. In almost any other season, Brees would have won it. He won the offensive player of the year, that justifies his performance but Rodgers was more effective. Complain about 96% of the voters casting ballots for Rodgers. Rodgers won and deserved to win.
If that isn't enough, drive out from the Bayou up to Brett Favre's place in Hattiesburg for the Super Bowl. I'm sure he will bitch right along with the rest of you
Wow you Saints fans sure are some whiny little B####es! I didn't hear Brees acting like you babies last night when he was interviewed.
Aaron averaged 9.2 yds. per attempt.
Drew averaged 8.4 yds. per attempt.
Aaron's INT% is 1.2.
Drew's is 2.1.
Aaron's TD% 9.0.
Drew's TD% 7.0.
Aaron's Y/C 13.5.
Drew's Y/C 11.7.
Plus, winning 15 games out of 16, including the winning streak & doing this while barely having a running game (due to McCarthy's play-calling.). Plus, the 3rd 7 4th OT's had to replace OT/Chad Clifton.
Breed got screwed .... at the very least co-mvp.... breed season will go down as the greatest WB season of all time!
Did you see Manning after he threw the touchdown pass to Cruz? He ran off the field to his sideline like he's done it all his life. Rodgers? The little bitch does some lame championship belt shtick - what a dork. There is your 2011 NFL MVP - loser...
There will always be a difference of opinion when it comes to voting as we saw in the college ranks this year. You could legitimately argue in many ways between Aaron, Drew and Tom that one was better than the other, but in the end they are all MVP's.
Opinions are partial to all of us so we just have to accept that in the end Aaron got the required votes needed to win. It doesn't mean that Drew or Tom or any less valuable in the NFL.
Good job Aaron, Drew and Tom for making this a debatable MVP year.

Congratulations Aaron. Better step it up though, Brees will get his next year.
Rodgers will be a contender for years as will Brees, Manning, and likely Stafford.
However you "Football Fan" (real ironic handle), will wake up in the morning being the same pathetic clown that you have shown to be with your recent posts.
I think that tonites game kinda showed why AR was the MVP - at least IMO it showed why Brady was not the MVP - Rodgers - it could be argued had 2 sub par games - against KC and against NYG ( second game) - both of those games he was sub par - not horrible - both Brady and Brees had some real clunker games with a bunch of missed passes multiple INT's etc- That is why this was kinda a blow out as far the MVP quarterback award is concerned. Eli proved that it is not how many games you win it is when you win them - much like AR did last year. Brady's bad picks shows what happens to a MVP quarterback when you throw it up - like the fox chasing the chicken sometimes you get chicken sometimes a mouth full of feathers - Too bad too sad - second time that he coulda added another ring and he didnt
It's obvious the MVP award has turned into a "popularity contest". Let's fix the NFL by cancelling the MVP Award, the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl Half Time Show. What do the three have in common? Answer--all three have lost credibility with true fans!
that is bull crap drew brees set the record for the most passing yards in a single season. and did rodgers no cause he isnt as good as drew brees.
im not saying he sucks or any thing he just isnt as good as brees im still a fan of rodgers but a bigger fan of brees
im sorry u didnt win brees u should of and god bless u
Aaron had 1 Pro Bowl lineman vs Brees' 3; he accumulated his deserving MVP by being a better quarterback, hands down. Doesn't matter that Brees' broke records, watch N.O. games, he gets to sit in the pocket all day, of course he is going to pass for a ridiculous amount of yards with his receiver set, as well as sitting in the pocket for 7 seconds without ever having to move his feet. Rodgers was always scrambling and was still accurate, winning games with his feet as well as arm. Rodgers is the better quarterback, by far, and the most deserving of MVP.

Your Kidding right? Brees had only volume records based on 150 more attempts! And the completion % he had was cuz he plays in a dome and didn't have a cold weather game all year! Rodgers was better by every measure of efficiency. Had a higher QB rating, a higher yards per attempt. ALOT less INT's... Rodgers was the runaway winner and it should have been unanimous.. Try being objective next time and you might get taken seriously! Give Rodgers those 150 more attempts in a dome and no cold weather and he crushes every stat Brees had.
