Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is optimistic about his return from a torn ACL in his left knee.

From the sounds of things, he’s progressing nicely since undergoing surgery Dec. 30, an operation performed by Dr. James Andrews. His goal is to begin running Feb. 28 – 11 days from now.

I’m definitely making improvement. I’m starting to get my muscle tone and strength back into the legs,” Peterson told Paul Allen on KFAN, according to Viking Update. “I’m happy with the progress I’ve made so far. I’m extremely happy.”

Peterson said the Vikings trainers have warned him not to push things too quickly as he rehabilitates in Houston.

“(My physical therapist) is making sure I’m doing the right things. It feels strong, but he doesn’t want me to push it too much,” Peterson said.

He said the swelling is mostly gone and now it’s about strengthening the leg and knee. With any luck, he will be ready to roll before the season begins.
