Agent for Mike Patterson will file grievance vs. Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles have placed defensive tackle Mike Patterson on the non-football illness list and his agent plans to file a grievance.

The Philadephia Inquirer reports that the move, with three games remaining in the regular season, will cost Patterson about $150,000 after he contracted pneumonia and had to be hospitalized.

“This is not how you treat people if you're a winning organization," agent Peter Schaffer told the Inquirer. “I think it's pretty clear that he got it at practice or at the NovaCare Complex. That's where he spends all his time. That's all he's doing, practicing and working out.”

Patterson cannot return from the list this season and the Eagles are not expected to bring him back in 2013. The popular veteran underwent brain surgery in January and returned to play in five games.

"I told (Eagles GM) Howie (Roseman) this morning that if he could prove to me that Mike didn't get pneumonia at practice I wouldn't file a grievance," Schaffer said. "He said he couldn't. I love Howie, but this is wrong and petty. To do this to one of your leaders and to a guy that fought back from brain surgery is just wrong."
