Driver reportedly suffered 'broken back' Brad Biggs
Off-field trouble continues to find Aldon Smith.
This time, the San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker, who was the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year in 2011, was involved in a “serious” car accident on Friday, two days before he played in a victory over the Detroit Lions at Candlestick Park.
According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Smith was a passenger in a BMW that ended up in a dirt embankment on its side. Smith suffered a cut over his eye that required stitches and the driver suffered a “broken back,” according to the report.
The accident allegedly occurred when the driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid a deer on a road in unincorporated Santa Clara County. It was almost midnight and it was not far from Smith’s residence near San Jose. California Highway Patrol said alcohol was not a contributing factor.
Smith was stabbed at an out-of-control party during the summer and was charged with DUI in Miami Beach in January. He played the entire game against the Lions.
