Alex Mack gets the transition tag
The Cleveland Browns are using the transition tag to try and keep center Alex Mack with the franchise, teh team announced.
The tag will pay Mack $10.3 million if he plays under it in 2014. However, teams will be allowed to negotiate with him in free agency, with the Browns having the right to match any offer another team might give him.
Mack reportedly met with Browns officials over the weekend with hopes of reaching a new deal.
If Mack hit the free agent market, he would have been one of the highest sought-after centers in the league. While he'll have suitors with the transition tag, Cleveland will likely do what it can to keep him in town.
