Chicago Bears wide receiver will have arthrocopic knee surgery Wednesday, a development that will sideline him for an undetermined period of time just after he returned from a broken hand.

Jeffery, a second-round draft pick from South Carolina, missed four games before returning Monday night in the Bears’ 32-7 loss at San Francisco. He said he was fine after the game but obviously the Bears believe something needs to be cleaned out or looked at more closely.

Jeffery has been valuable for the offense in the red zone. When he injured his hand on a touchdown reception at Jacksonville on Oct. 7, he was among the NFL leaders for rookie wideouts. He has 16 receptions for for 199 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

It’s unknown at this point how long Jeffery will be sidelined. With six regular-season games remaining, it is possible he could return before the year is over.
