Eugene Amano should return from a knee injury back to practice for the Tennessee Titans next week.
He has plenty of things to prove to the team beyond just his health.
During the off-season, the Titans brought in five free agent centers – Chris Myers, Dan Koppen, Scott Wells, Jeff Saturday and Jeff Faine – but did not sign any of them. Instead, Amano now finds himself in a competition with his own backup from 2011, Kevin Matthews.
As for any offense taken to the parade of centers, Amano tells TitanInsider.com that there is none taken and that he expects to remain the starter at center for the third straight year.
“It’s part of the business. That’s just how it goes. I’ve been here long enough to know that it’s just part of it,” Amano said. “I talked to them and all that. It’s all about getting the team better, and I understand that part. I’m still here and I expect to be the guy snapping the ball this fall. There’s always competition and you can’t get complacent in this league. The minute you do, you’re gone. You’ve just got to try to get better every day.”
