Competition has arrived for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Andre Caldwell, and his name is Jordan Shipley.

Caldwell is slated to battle with Shipley, a former University of Texas standout, for the third receiver position.

“Competing is going to make everybody better,” Caldwell told the Dayton Daily News. “I’m trying to make a name for myself this season by putting up big numbers. I want this to be a breakout season for me and be a key figure in the offense. So I’m up for the challenge.”

Caldwell has worked to get in better shape, adding boxing training to his offseason regimen a la Chad Ochocinco.

“Boxing got me in the best shape of my life,” Caldwell said. “I believe it will help me become more of an impact player this season."

By all accounts, Caldwell has had a strong offseason after catching 51 passes for 432 yards and three touchdowns last season.

“I have to increase my productivity and prove to the coaches my worth,” Caldwell said. “The bar is set high for us this season. We’re not going to be satisfied unless we get to the Super Bowl and win it. Anything other than that is a failure for us. I’m ready to do my part."
