The Philadelphia Eagles ran out of time waiting for Jaiquawn Jarrett to become the player they imagined he would be when he was drafted in 2011.

And Jarrett was waived as the Eagles launched the 54th overall pick from the draft a year ago. He is the highest-drafted player from 2011 to be released that was not injured. Jarrett was slow and he never came close to being the big hitter the team forecasted when he arrived.

"That's my responsibility. I misevaluated that," Eagles coach Andy Reid said, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I think one of the key things is when you make a mistake for your system that you correct it and you can't let your ego get in the way of that. You just can't do it.

"I have final say on all the picks. You're going to find ones that fit into your system and some that don't. You're going to be right sometimes. You're going to be wrong sometimes. That doesn't mean that the kid can't play in this league for somebody.

“If you want to bolster the defense, which we were trying to do, sometimes you put yourself in a position where maybe you stretch it. I goofed on that."
