The attorney for former Cleveland Browns rookie Ausar Walcott is claiming he punched a man in a fight in self defense, per the Bergen Record.

Walcott was charged with attempted murder on June 23 for allegedly punching Derrick Jones and critically injuring him. Jones has since recovered and been released from the hospital.

Walcott's attorney claims in papers filed in court that his client and friends were surrounded by a group of 10 to 20 men when one of those men punched a friend who was in Walcott's party. Walcott, attorney Mike Feinstein said, attempted to back away from the matter was but "accosted" and the retaliated with the punch.

He has been charged with attempted murder in the matter, and was cut by the Browns the next day after being charged.
