Nick Roach had arthroscopic surgery to clean out his left knee today and the Chicago Bears are saying the linebacker should be ready to go for the start of the season.
Roach has been in competition with Pisa Tinoisamoa for the starting job on the strong side. It was expected Tinoisamoa would be given the job, and this could pretty much seal the deal.
Roach started 15 games last season when injuries ripped through the team’s corps of linebackers, forcing the Bears to use six different starting combinations at the position. He finished fourth on the team with 82 tackles, a productive showing considering he came out in the nickel package. One of the major injuries the team suffered last year involved Tinoisamoa. He appeared in only two games, having to shut it down to undergo knee surgery.
Meanwhile, middle linebacker Brian Urlacher was sidelined for a second consecutive day with a strained left calf.
