The Chicago Bears were bracing for the worst possible news with defensive tackle Henry Melton from his knee injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Now, that news is as bad as they thought it might be.

Melton tore his anterior cruciate ligament and is out for the season, according to ESPN.

Melton is playing this year as the Bears' franchise player, at a salary of $8.45 million.

Melton will hit unrestricted free agency coming off a knee injury and won't command the payday he would have otherwise.
