The first week of the NFL’s 2014 free agent period continues to see the Chicago Bears revamp the team’s defensive line.
Gone are Pro Bowler Julius Peppers and defensive tackle Henry Melton, while Chicago signed defensive end Lamarr Houston once the market opened on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Bears were at it again, this time acquiring defensive end Willie Young, per Tom Pelissero of USA Today.
According to Pelissero, it’s a three-year deal worth $9 million, with a $2 million signing bonus and $3.95 million guaranteed.
Young, a four-year veteran out of North Carolina State who was selected by the Detroit Lions in the seventh round of the 2010 draft, amassed 3.0 sacks, ten quarterback hits and 11 tackles for loss in 16 games with the Lions last season. The 28-year-old made 15 starts for Detroit in 2013 prior to having never started a game in any of his previous three seasons.
