Bears part ways with Evan Rodriguez

Last week the Chicago Bears were “extremely disappointed” in Evan Rodriguez following a DUI arrest on May 31.

Today, the team was done with the fullback. Rodriguez was placed on waivers after the Bears found a replacement, signing veteran Tony Fiammetta.

The DUI charge was the second arrest of the offseason for Rodriguez, who had a blood-alcohol level of 0.17, a police source told the Chicago Tribune.

What’s interesting is the shift in philosophy. Rodriguez was more of a classic H-back, timed in the 40-yard dash last year at the combine in 4.53 seconds. He had open-field ability as a receiver and was a converted tight end after the team selected him in the fourth round from Temple. Fiammetta is a true fullback, so he brings a dimension to the offense that has been missing.
