Ah, the new rookie wage scale, courtesy of the collective bargaining agreement.
Time was when you could set your watch by the Cincinnati Bengals' top draft pick being involved in long drawn out negotiations and possibly a holdout.
But those days appear to be gone for good, as the Bengals announced Monday they have signed top pick Tyler Eifert, the 21st overall pick in the draft.
Coach Marvin Lewis welcomed the former Notre Dame tight end into the fold via a statement released on the signing.
“We’ve said all along that we expected Tyler’s deal to get done in good time, but it’s great to now have all our signings complete,” Lewis said. “All 10 guys can help us by getting off to fast starts, and we are looking for Tyler to lead that. He’s shown us everything we wanted to see in our offseason work.”
Somewhere former top picks like Andre Smith, Keith Rivers and othe first-rounders past are probably wondering why it couldn't have been this easy.
