Bengals waive WR Shipley

Jordan Shipley, a third-round pick in 2010, was waived by the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday, the club announced.

Shipley suffered a torn ACL in his left knee last year, and was trying to come back after surgery 11 months ago. Shipley had recently been cleared to return and caught one pass in preseason for 4 yards.

As a rookie from the University of Texas, Shipley had a big year in 2010, catching 52 passes as the Bengals third receiver.

It is possible that a receiver-needy team could put in a claim for Shipley, though he still may need time to completely recover from the knee injury and get back to his previous form.
