Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar has been beset by several issues since retiring from the NFL.

Between his bankruptcy filing, ugly divorce and several health issues, Kosar has been through a lot of tough times.

One thing he wanted to address was a rift with former Browns owner Art Modell.

"I needed to see Art," Kosar told the Cleveland Plain  Dealer. "We hadn't talked since I was cut [by the Browns in 1993]. I heard that Art was in a wheelchair and not doing well. I know that Art thinks he can't come back [to Cleveland], so I went to Art."

Why did he go to see Modell?

"Because it was something I should do," Kosar said. "Why not make up with him? Life is too short. We had a great visit."

Kosar also discussed his divorced, money problems and health issues.

And he says he's been on good terms with former Browns coach Bill Belichick since shortly after Belichick began coaching the New England Patriots.

"I was interviewed about it, and I told the writers that I thought Bill would make a good coach," Kosar said. "I really meant it. He's a smart guy. Bill then called me to thank me, and we've been friends ever since. I have never been one to carry grudges for long.

"I got whacked by Bill, but stuff does happen. "You can't change history. You can't be negative or bitter about it. I didn't want to carry that around when it came to Bill. When reporters asked me about how Bill would do in New England, they figured I'd slam him. But I said what I really believed. Bill is fantastic when it comes to organization and discipline."
