Through improved nutrition and a better exercise regimen, Buffalo Bills rookie nose guard Michael Jasper has gotten down to 375 pounds from a high of 448 pounds.

The 6-foot-4 seventh-round draft pick from Bethel was listed at 394 pounds at the time of the draft, but that was apparently not an accurate figure.

“He’s not as big as you’ve got him listed,” Bills general manager Buddy Nix said. “He’s down to 378 pounds so he’s drying up to nothing.”

According to the Tennessean, Jasper was once weighed at McKenzie Feed & Grain Store because he was too big for a bathroom scale.

“He’d step up on our platform feed scale and customers would start coming over, gathering to see what he weighed,” store owner Dan Bradford said. “We’d have a big time with it.”

Jasper said he has worked diligently to get in better shape, following the advice of Bills regional scout Matt Hand.

Jasper is an athletic big man with a 5.34 clocking in the 40-yard dash, a 9-5 broad jump and a 34-inch vertical leap.

“I haven’t talked to anyone from the Bills since the draft, but me and my trainer don’t know if we want me to get down to 360 pounds or anywhere near that,” said Jasper, who signed with Ole Miss out of high school and played at Tennessee-Martin and Middle Tennessee State before winding up at Bethel. “The way my body is, I’m not a regular 360-pound man. But I’ve done what the Bills asked me to do. ..

““I’ve stopped eating so much and pretty much cut eating beef out. I’ve minimized my bad carbohydrate intake, increased my vegetables and greens and water intake to kind of confuse my body so that it wouldn’t hold onto so much water. It has started to flush some of the excess off. I feel brand new. I sleep better, I wake up feeling good."
