The Arizona Cardinals have activated tight end Ben Patrick after his roster exemption following a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s policy on anabolic steroids and related substances ended.
Patrick reportedly tested positive for the drug Adderall, which his agent says he took to remain awake on a drive from Flagstaff, Ariz., to Phoenix. It’s the same drug and excuse that was reportedly used by New Orleans Saints kicker Garrett Hartley, who also has returned from suspension.
Patrick, a seventh-round draft pick in 2007 from Delaware, started to develop last season. He caught 11 passes in 10 games, and hauled in a touchdown during the Super Bowl.
