The Chicago Bears have gotten their first order of business out of the way, working to clear the deck for the big signing that is expected later today.
Tight end Brandon Manumaleuna has agreed to terms on a five-year contract and arrived at O’Hare International Airport this morning after a red eye flight from Los Angeles. He will sign the contract, brokered by agent Paul Sheehy, after passing a physical.
It’s a perfect fit for new offensive coordinator Mike Martz, who brought the 6-2, 295-pounder into the league with the St. Louis Rams in 2001. Manumaluna, 30, will be a perfect complement to Greg Olsen, perhaps a compromise for Martz, who prefers blocking tight ends.
Julius Peppers and his agent Carl Carey and running back Chester Taylor and his agent Ken Sarnoff are expected to arrive soon. The Bears are expected to sign Peppers, who will be accompanied to town by coach Lovie Smith, and a deal could be in place for Taylor soon.
"We have a chance to get a lot of good guys," Manumaleuna said. "And make a good run for it."

You have to set the front his way, or give up some automatic yards tot he run game.
The Saints used a guard as an extra tight end and had a very prolific offense, blockers have a place in a big passaing attack.
Martz likes what he saw in the Bears WRs. If you watched the last two games, there was enough to like. If he can teach them how to arrive at spots just before the ball arrives, their names will be recognizable next year. And that big TE will make sure it's not Jay's fault if the QB and WR are not "on the same page," as happened too many times.
I like the signing. It's not a threat to Olsen, though Des Clark might be out. I'll like it more when we sign Taylor. The competition in camp between him and Forte to learn the book should be one of many major side shows and one reason why people will be lining up at BearBonnais this July.
Finley's competition ??? - what a joke - who was hyping this guy other than his agent - playing behind Gates doesnt make you a great player. Best year was 2003 and he only caught 29 passes - Finley has almost half the catches this guy caught in 1 year and BM has played 9 years. Keep picking these good guys Bears and you will pass the Lions in the division.

Jermichael Finley arrived last year and is now the best Tightend in the North and one of the best in Football. Big, catches well and runs like a receiver. If Jennings doesn't stop dropping catchable balls, Finley will replace him as Rodgers receiver of choice
Every time I see someone cite an unnamed source, it ends up being a big fat lie. If you don't have any news to report, don't go making crap up.

Might want to get a decent receiver at some point also.
