The Chicago Bears continued to wildest spending spree in franchise history as running back Chester Taylor has agreed to terms on a four-year contract.
He’s expected to become the starting back with a deal that has a total value of $12.5 million with $7 million guaranteed, a healthy clip more than the Bears paid for Thomas Jones when he came on board in 2004. But if Taylor can help them replace Jones – something they have been seeking to do ever since they gave him away to the New York Jets in a trade – well then it will mark progress.
Taylor is the second free agent to join the fold for the Bears today after tight end Brandon Manumaleuna got a five-year contract with $6 million guaranteed. The club is expected to announce the addition of defensive end Julius Peppers soon.
Matt Forte is the incumbent running back but he struggled this past season and underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in January. Both catch the ball out of the backfield well so offensive coordinator Mike Martz should have a solid 1-2 punch.

They picked up Brian Williams last September after he was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Williams was re-signed on Thursday. He is recovering from a torn ACL but should be ready for the start of the season.
