Chicago sought young pass rusher Brad Biggs

The Chicago Bears believe they have boosted their pass rush by adding a player who had fallen out of favor with Raheem Morris in Tampa Bay when they traded their second-round pick in 2010 for defensive end Gaines Adams.

The fourth pick of the 2007 draft, Adams had 12 1/2 sacks through his first two seasons playing in the Tampa Two scheme that was run by Monte Kiffin and that Lovie Smith uses with the Bears.

The Bears believe that with defensive line coach Rod Marinelli, they will be able to bring out the best in Adams. He’s under contract through 2012, so now they have a young pass rusher in the fold as veterans Adewale Ogunleye and Mark Anderson will be out of contract after this season. The club was motivated to get the deal done because general manager Jerry Angelo rarely parts with draft picks. Now, he’ll go into the next draft without his first- and second-round picks, the result of this deal and the trade for quarterback Jay Cutler.

Are you serious.....I live in Tampa he is horrible!!!! He has no moves cant beat tackles and every play he is on the field the closest he gets to the QB is 7-8 yrds. because he tries to round on the the tackle and there no physical moves to him. He is absolutly affraid of contact. The running joke down here in Tampa is the only way he can get a sack is if the QB drops 10 yrds back then falls down and Adams then tags him. This is a horrible trade. Don't know what Angelo is doing unless they are going to move someone for a WR?????

As a Bears fan, this is a good trade for us. I hate to part with draft picks, but Angelo has shown an ability over the years to be able to get good talent in later rounds, with Lance Briggs, a 3rd round pick, and last year's 5th round pick, Johnny Knox as good examples. Adams is a young pass rusher who can be developed. Between Adams, Marc Anderson, Gilbert, Harrison and a hopefully soon healthy Tommie Harris, Angelo has given the Bears a young talented D-Line to develop for the future. I wish we took this strategy with the offensive line, too. We have plugged holes with veterans like Pace and will be in trouble very soon if we cannot develop more young talent. Williams is still a work in progress, but we really need a Blue Chip tackle or guard and we do not have one on the roster.

As a Bears fan, I'm hesitant considering Adams is one of those guys who got all the hype around draft time and then was forgotten until just now. He's a beastly guy though, and hopefully the Bears saw something in him that Tampa hasn't been able to get the most out of it. Not thrilled to lose the pick though.

The Bears arguably have the best 43 DL coach in the NFL. If he can't bring out the potential in Adams, no one will.

Romo said. “We're improving as the year's moving along. For us, it's all about improvement and stacking some wins together. If we're playing good football at the end of the year, we've got a chance to be where we want to be.
