Plaxico Burress is angling for a get-out-of-jail early card and the Manhattan district attorney’s office will oppose a move by the former wide receiver to enter a work release program, the New York Daily News reported.

Burress applied for the program through the New York state corrections department on Nov. 25. He is serving a two-year sentence at Oneida Correctional Facility on gun possession charges stemming from the night he shot himself in the leg at the Latin Quarter night club.

Burress is less than two months into his sentence, but the report states that he is eligible to apply for the program when he is within two years of being eligible for parole, a date that would fall in June 2011.

The report states that prison officials will rule on Burress’ application next month. If granted, he would be released immediately. Under terms of the program, he would be able to live at home and work at a pre-approved job—probably not the NFL—and he could have to return to prison as often as three days and nights a week. It sounds like Burress and his lawyers have hatched a Hail Mary plan.

Stay tuned.

This shot himself. Dumb move, but this is insane. He is being treated like a rapist. Let him out of jail so he can work, and contribute to society. No, let's keep him in jail @ the taxpayers expense.

Typical liberal New York garbage.

Did he do something dumb? Yes. Does he deserve to be in jail? Probably not. His Lawyer said it best when he said that, if he wasn't famous, there probably wouldn't have even been charges filed.

. Ocho is just having fun. He is a good player, backs it up on the field and is a good teammate. He may be a loud mouth, but a jerk? I'm sure there are plenty of NFLers with questionable character...some probably flat out bad guys. But Ocho is not one of them. Find something else to complain about.
