The rebuilding Kansas City Chiefs announced a series of moves today, starting with the release
of veteran guard Mike Goff.

Goff had a streak of 113 consecutive starts snapped midway through the season when he suffered a shoulder injury Oct. 25 vs. San Diego.

The Chiefs also announced that running back Kolby Smith and quarterback Matt Gutierrez have been re-signed. Smith has been plagued by injuries the last two seasons. Gutierrez gives the team a second quarterback behind Matt Cassel. Brodie Croyle projects to be a restricted free agent.

Wade Smith and Andy Alleman helped fill in at right guard after Goff was injured. Both of them are out of contract, and the line remains an issue for Todd Haley’s young offense.

It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs make a move to bring back Smith’s cousin, veteran safety Mike Brown. He is one of Haley’s favorite players, but Brown doesn’t have the range to be an effective free safety any more. In the box vs. the run as a strong safety, he’s stout. Brown is going to be an unrestricted free agent.

Vikings should keep Taylor but if they can't they can get LT or Westbrook.
