Miami wanted bigger piece of pie than Jacksonville, Tampa in joint effort Brad Biggs
The Miami Dolphins sank a state lottery sponsorship deal that would have involved the two other teams in the state—Jacksonville and Tampa Bay—because they wanted a bigger piece of the pie, the Sports Business Journal reported today.
New Dolphins president Mike Dee reportedly made a loser of the scratch-and-win sponsorship that the NFL allowed its teams to enter into this season. Eighteen of the 32 teams have taken advantage of the opportunity already, and the three teams in California are in talks about potential deals starting in 2010.
What is interesting is that the Jaguars are facing difficulties with revenue and they are expected to have every home game blacked out this season. The Buccaneers are also struggling to sell tickets.Meanwhile, the Dolphins are attempting to ramp up their profile in South Florida, and they apparently believed they deserved more than one-third of the share in this deal. Hey, so much for revenue sharing.
