Biggs: Falcons to bring Stecker back with Turner hurt

With the expectation that Michael Turner will miss some time after spraining his right ankle in Sunday’s loss at Carolina, Atlanta is expected to re-sign veteran Aaron Stecker.

The Falcons released Stecker on Saturday in order to promote wide receiver Troy Bergeron from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Now, with Turner’s situation very much up in the air—coach Mike Smith said he will address the injury on Wednesday—the Falcons will add some veteran depth.

Jerious Norwood has missed the last four games with a hip flexor, and he’s also reportedly suffered two concussions this season. That makes Jason Snelling the starter Sunday at the New York Giants if Turner cannot go. Atlanta (5-4) is suddenly spiraling, having lost three of its last four games at a time when Turner was just starting to hit a groove. Fox Sport’s Jay Glazer has reported that Turner suffered a dreaded high ankle sprain but the team is optimistic the injury won’t sideline him as long as some high ankle sprains do—four to six weeks.

Turner left Carolina on Sunday using a walking boot. He rushed for 111 yards on only nine carries, and has topped 100 yards in his last three games.
