John Fox denied telling any friends or close associates that he plans to be canned in Carolina after the season.

A report on FoxSports.com Sunday morning by John Czarnecki said that Fox was resigned to the fact that he would be fired after the season. The Panthers have been in a downward spiral since losing at home to Arizona in the divisional round of the playoffs, and they were 0-3 before rallying from a 17-2 deficit to defeat the Washington Redskins.

“I think if I was talking to my friends, I'd probably tell them if I was expecting a new five-year contract, but I don't think I'd be telling them I'm getting fired at the end of the season,” Fox told reporters after the game. “I really don't even know how to respond to that. It doesn't make much sense if it did come out.”

Czarnecki also reported that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has made two bids to lure Mike Shanahan into the fold, but that doesn’t appear likely to happen during the season. Shanahan is being handsomely paid $7 million by Pat Bowlen to not coach the Denver Broncos this season.

Of course, if Fox had told anyone he expected to be canned, do you think he would admit it publicly?
