Biggs: Good news in Motown despite blackout

It is building to be quite a Sunday at Ford Field, for those who actually attend the game and are not kept in the dark by a local television blackout.

The Detroit Lions are four-point favorites over the St. Louis Rams, for folks who care about that kind of stuff or understand the significance of the Lions actually being favored.

The team announced earlier today that the game will be blacked out, but the Lions got some good news as quarterback Matthew Stafford, who has not played in a game since dislocating his right knee cap Oct. 4 at Chicago, practiced. So did wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who injured his knee against Pittsburgh on Oct. 11, according to Tom Kowalski of MLive.com.

It was the third straight day of practice for Stafford, and it was the first for Johnson after sitting out the last two. The hope is both will return for this game but coach Jim Schwartz is keeping it close to the vest.

The Lions are coming off a bye, giving them some extra preparation for the Rams (0-7). Not to get too far ahead of ourselves, but this week, Nov. 29 vs. Seattle, Dec. 13 at Tennessee and Dec. 20 vs. Houston look like the best chances at a victory for first-year Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo.
