First, right tackle Shawn Andrews was placed on injured reserve, ending his 2009 season before it started.
Now, the Philadelphia Eagles have demoted right guard Stacy Andrews, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Eagles are planning to use a three-headed monster at the two guard positions Sunday against New Orleans. Andrews will be a part of that mix, but he will not start. Nick Cole and Max Jean-Gilles are expected to start for Philadelphia, which is still without left guard Todd Herremans as he recovers from surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot.
Stacy Andrews would have been demoted already, but a knee injury to Jean-Gilles caused a detour in coach Andy Reid’s plan. It’s unusual for coaches to rotate offensive linemen unless they are trying to slowly work in an injured player. He signed a $40 million, six-year contract to join the Eagles after tearing an ACL last season in Cincinnati. He was eased into training camp and preseason and said he’s not quite ready with the offense. The knee, Stacy Andrews said, held up fine last week at Carolina.
As far as his brother, Reid said that Shawn Andrews will not require a second surgery on his back. Not at this point, any way. However, the team has sent him to Los Angeles so he can work with Dr. Robert Watkins, the physician who performed the surgery. Watkins does extensive work with athletes and also operated on the back of Chicago Bears cornerback Charles Tillman this offseason.

The three guard rotation was started by Paul Brown to get around the rule about no coaching from the sidelines. A new guard, Abe Gibron being one of them, brought in the next play. There should still be a rule against coaching from the sidelines, especially the way the Bears do it. Now, that' criminal! The next step will be computer controlled robots playing the game.
Best example of sideline coaching is; George Halas was being his usual disruptive self during one game and the referee cxalled him for coaching from the sidelines and walked off 15 yards. Halas yelled at the ref, "that shows how much you know. It should be a 5 yard penalty". To which the ref replied, "not the way you're doing it, George". See George's book "Halas by Halas".
