The worst fears of Tracy Porter and the New Orleans Saints were relieved this morning when he took an MRI and it revealed he did not tear the ACL in his left knee.

That is what the player and he club expected coming out of Sunday’s victory at St. Louis. But medical tests showed he has only a torn MCL. Porter will not require surgery and he is expected to return in six weeks, just in time for a postseason run with the Saints.

Porter was injured on the first play from scrimmage of the second half against the Rams. He was attempting to tackle St. Louis wide receiver Brandon Gibson after a short pass and Gibson broke free. Free safety Usama Young flew in and hit Porter’s planted left leg.

The expectation was that Porter had suffered an ACL tear. He was replaced by first-round draft pick Malcolm Jenkins.

He was symptom-free and tests came back normal and so on so I did what the experts said. They felt comfortable with it and we went with it.
