Biggs: Panthers lose LT Gross for season

The good news is that the Carolina Panthers won for the fourth time in their last six games this afternoon, improving their record to 4-5 by toppling NFC South foe Atlanta.

The bad news is that it came at significant price. Left tackle Jordan Gross was lost for the season with a fractured right ankle.

Gross cashed in this offseason with a $60 million, six-year contract that pays him $30.5 million in the first three seasons, proof that it’s not backloaded.

The Panthers were forced to shuffle the line without him. Left guard Travelle Wharton moved over to take Gross’ spot and Mackenzy Bernadeau, a second-year player from

Travelle Wharton, who plays alongside Gross at left guard, moved over to Gross's spot on Sunday. Mackenzy Bernadeau, a seventh-round pick in 2008 from Bentley University, played in Wharton's place. The Panthers will have to iron out their new line quickly. They host Miami on Thursday night when they will try to get to .500.

He was symptom-free and tests came back normal and so on so I did what the experts said. They felt comfortable with it and we went with it.
