Newcomer will surpass Snyder at right tackle Brad Biggs
When Tony Pashos did not start last week for the San Francisco 49ers, it marked just the second game he has not started since 2005.
He could begin a new streak very soon. Although Adam Snyder is expected to remain with the first team at right tackle for the beginning of Sunday’s meeting with the Seattle Seahawks, Pashos will get time during the game, and it is expected to be only a matter of time before he takes the position over.
Pashos was signed 12 days ago after being a surprise cut in Jacksonville where he refused to take a pay cut and was less than enthusiastic about the Jaguars’ plan to kick him inside to guard. The Niners had signed Marvel Smith during the offseason but he never got on track because of a bad back that led him to retire. Snyder won the job more or less by default, and the Niners did not play well up front in their victory at Arizona.
Running back Frank Gore was limited to 30 yards on 22 rushes, and that has to improve. So expects Pashos to move in quickly for a line that really has only one entrenched starter, Joe Staley at left tackle. Chilo Rachal could develop at right guard, but a combination of bad draft picks and missed free-agent signings (see Jonas Jennings) have hindered this unit. On a one-year deal, Pashos at least has the opportunity to be a quick fix.
