Linebacker set to earn $4.75 million in 2010 though Brad Biggs
Antonio Pierce intends to be back with the New York Giants next season.
That is what the linebacker said today on Sirius NFL Radio today after he has been shut down for the remainder of the season with a bulging disc in his neck. Pierce is signed for one more year with $4.75 million on the books for 2010, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.
That price might be prohibitive for the Giants with Pierce 31 right now.
“I don’t see why I wouldn’t be there,” Pierce said on the airwaves. “This was a season that got cut short by injury that shocked all of us, management, coaches and players. With everything I gave New York the past five years, I feel I’ll be here.”
Right now, there are no plans for surgery for Pierce, who doctors have told to rest and then rehabilitate.
“It makes sense for the future. Looking at players in the past watching them go through the medical struggles they go through, this is the best thing to further my career and make sure when I walk away from this game I’m healthy.
“If this is my last (season) in New York next year or this year, I’ve had a great run,” he said. “I’ve been very happy and blessed to be with a Super Bowl champion, part of a Pro Bowl and the great players I’ve played with. I don’t concern myself with that right now.”
