A week off with a bye didn’t help the New York Giants out quite as much as they would have liked.
The team got some concerning news on Friday, two days before it hosts the Atlanta Falcons, when it announced that middle linebacker Antonio Pierce will be out indefinitely as he suffers from a bulging disc in his neck.
The Giants announced that Pierce underwent an MRI today at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. He was originally diagnosed with a burner after playing the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 25. He had suffered very little in the way of discomfort until practice this week.
“I'm shocked with what I heard from the doctors this afternoon,” Pierce said. “I had no idea that what happened a few weeks ago could keep me off the field. I didn't think it was that serious. I'm going to do everything the doctors tell me to do so I can get back out on the field as soon as possible.”

At least the Bucs are getting him back out there because rookie quarterback Josh Freeman needs all the help he can get. A legitimate No. 1 target is always a good thing.
