It is no surprise that the surprise cut in Green Bay, Anthony Smith, was a hot commodity when he was exposed to waivers.

The St. Louis Rams, the winner in the Smith sweepstakes with a higher order in the selection process than Jacksonville and Houston, were awarded the safety.

Smith appeared in 46 games over the last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, making 10 starts in 2007. He primarily played on special teams last year. Green Bay signed him after he was cut loose by the Steelers and most figured he would stick there.

St. Louis also claimed defensive tackle LaJuan Ramsey on waivers from Tennessee. To make room, the Rams cut wide receiver Nate Jones and linebacker Quinton Culberson.

The Rams also announced the signing of six players to the practice squad: receiver Sean Walker, defensive end Ian Campbell, linebackers K.C. Asiodu and Dominic Douglas, tight end Eric Butler and cornerback Cord Parks.
