Biggs: Saints `wow' Childress

Destruction of Pats gives Vikes coach reason to applaud Brad Biggs

Brad Childress is well versed in the art of coachspeak.

It’s where an NFL coach opens his mouth and utters words, sometimes lots of them, but rarely actually says something. He fills up some time, some tape and a few notebooks, but doesn’t share a whole lot.

We’re focused on our next opponent. We’re taking them one at a time. Childress isn’t along. There is a whole fraternity of men in his line of work that do the same thing.

But Childress broke from that mold briefly on Wednesday when visiting with reporters to step back and admire the work of the New Orleans Saints on Monday night. The Saints demolished New England 38-17 to remain a perfect 11-0, one game better than the Vikings. The teams are vying for the top seed in the NFC playoffs.

“It was an explosive game,” Childress said. "Back and forth and there were a lot of plays made on both sides. I've seen New Orleans on tape a couple of times just out of curiosity, just to see what they're doing. I admire some of the things they do offensively and I think Sean (Payton, the Saints coach) is very creative. He always has been.

“It was a `Wow.’ It was a big wow. That's typically a very good, well-prepared New England team that goes on the road and can hang with you punch for punch. For them to win the way they did I think speaks for itself. Not a lot of other adjectives you can use.”

Not unless the Vikings and Saints meet up in what, from a distance, looks like it would be an entertaining NFC title game.

Saints would steamroll the Vikings in a laugher. I'd be surprised if the Vikes get past their first playoff game which will mark the first time all season they'll face a top 10 team.

The Saints were dropping everybody back in coverage against the Pats because the Pats almost never run, good luck trying that with #28.

Who have the Saints beaten other than the overrated Patriots who have been terrible on the road all year? Saints are a great team, but they have not encountered a player like Peterson or a defensive line like the Vikes have got, would be a great game.

It won't matter who has the easier schedule. It will come down to who makes the least amount of mistakes when they play each other.

Both teams got a lot in common.
They are explosive and spread the ball out to all their receivers.
Should make for a good match up.

Beat down Favre all you want. But he is a proven winner. And has a ring.
As is Breeze. He just hasn't won a super bowl yet.

japsne, you obviously haven't really looked at the schedules or won/loss records of the two teams. "TEN time tougher"? How about 1 percentage point tougher. Based on the won-loss records to date of the teams the Vikings and Saints have played so far, Vikings opponents have won 36% of their games, and the Saints opponents have won 37% - the two easiest schedules in the league. FYI: the Vikings have the tougher remaining schedule: remaining opponents have won 52.7% of their games with their two toughest games this week and next (Arizona and Cincinnati), and the Saints' upcoming foes have won only 48.9%. The Vikings have beaten 7-4 Green Bay, twice, and 6-5 Baltimore. The Saints have beaten 7-4 Philadelphia and 7-4 New England, and the 6-5 Giants and Falcons. Both have faced their share of "tomato cans": Cleveland, St. Louis and Detroit (twice) for Minnesota, and Detroit, St. Louis and Tampa for New Orleans. So New Orleans has beaten a whopping 4 teams with winning records, compared to Minnesota's 3. Don't hurt yourself getting off of that high horse.

The Packers twice, the Ravens and the Steelers are four tough games. As are the Eagles, Giants, Falcons, and Pats.

You can make fun of the Packers all you want, but because they're 7-4 and will probably make the playoffs, you'll look like a fool for saying those two games were crap wins. The Vikings just match-up well against them...it's as simple as that. I'd have to say the Pats don't look much better than the Pack.

Borland had a good word in "do not trust these men" Chilly somehow has moved on from idiocracy and has the challenges and time management issues ironed out. I think the NFC champ game between the two best teams will be very entertaining.

Allen has not been shy about spending to build a good team, they just need somebody with a better eye for talent as well as an overall strategy for building.
