Wife of Chris Spielman was advocate for breast cancer research Brad Biggs
Stefanie Spielman, the wife of NFL star Chris Spielman, lost her public and courageous battle with breast cancer today. She was 42.
Stefanie Spielman died at the family’s home in Upper Arlington, Ohio, near Columbus. She was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 at age 30. She was three months pregnant and miscarried. She beat cancer then and won three following bouts with the disease before being diagnosed for a fifth time in March.
The Spielmans shared their story with fans everywhere and raised more than $6 million for breast cancer research through the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.
“Stefanie has gone home to be with the Lord,” Chris Spielman said in a statement to WBNS in Columbus where he hosts a show. “For that, we celebrate, but with broken hearts. I want to thank everyone for their support over the last 12 years. Together, with your help, hopefully we made a difference in this fight.”
Chris Spielman was playing for the Buffalo Bills when Stefanie was originally diagnosed. He walked away from the game for the 1998 season to be with his wife and children.
Stefanie Spielman is survived by Chris and four children, Madison, Noah, Macy and Audrey.

God bless the Spielman family in this most difficult time. I remember Chris playing for the Bills and the community loved the way in which he played. I remember when Stefanie was diagnosed with cancer and how the community rallied behind Chris and his family.

Sincerest of condolences to The Spielman family. Their story is truly inspiring. Their children witnessed their parents at their best - their experiences, while sad and heart wrenching, were a blessing in God's own way. May God keep their family strong and close.
