Arizona lineman playing at elite level, but has 2 years left on deal Brad Biggs
Talk is cheap and no one has a better idea about that reality than Arizona defensive tackle Darnell Dockett, who has been seeking a new contract since, well, shortly after he signed his last contract it seems.
“I tell you what, Dockett's the best player I've seen on film this year," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said during a conference call with Phoenix reporters. "You know as a coach, every year you start studying teams and preparing for teams and he's the best individual player I've seen.
“I mean he's something for us to deal with coming this weekend.”
Docket is signed through 2011, two full seasons after this year, and the situation can’t escape his mind. Sporting News recently named him the most tenacious defensive lineman in the league, for what that is worth.
“It'd be nice if I got paid like it,” Dockett told the Arizona Republic. “But hey, recognition means a lot, even though I don't get all the credit I probably deserve. But I can honestly say it's a blessing. I'm thankful for it.”
Dockett has vowed to not become a distraction for the organization. He’s made noise about a new deal before, but like wide receiver Anquan Boldin, he got started with a contract that probably wasn’t very good for him from the get-go. Dockett signed a $22.01 million, five-year extension in 2006, and he has asked to be traded in the past. Instead, he faces the reality of having to perform at an elite level for an extended period of time to get back to the bargaining table.
“I'm trying to do whatever I can to help my team win, but I'm not doing it for the organization,’’ Dockett said. “I'm doing it for my coach, my teammates, all the veteran guys in here. That's it.
“I want us to win, but as far the other thing goes (the contract), I don't know if I'll ever see the light. But I do see a rainbow, and if the end of it doesn't lead here, it'll lead somewhere else.”

Just another pro athlete who signed a contract and then showed he has a total lack of character. You agreed to the contract: live with it and sign a better one next time.
